Boys and Girls Harbor students raise money for the Sulaxmi School for Girls
On April 21, 2003, the New York Daily News Metro section featured (Youngsters Help With Art and Heart).  Artwork by the students of Boys and Girls Harbor was auctioned to benefit the Sulaxmi School for Girls in Lucknow, India and a school in Angola.

United Nations Exhibition
Artwork by the students of the Sulaxmi School for Girls and Boys and Girls Harbor was featured at the United Nations' "The Gift of Life Exhibition", held on June 12 through July 10, 2003.

"The Gift of Life" was a presentation of collages by students from the Sulaxmi School for Girls in Lucknow, India and Boys and Girls Harbor, Genesis and P.A.C.T. Programs in East Harlem, New York.

This year, students ages 11-17 from Spanish and Central Harlem studied the harsh living conditions in poverty-stricken regions of Angola and India where food, medicine and education are often just dreams. They responded by depicting what they imagine life to be like for their peers in those countries. The students' goal to raise money to help. It's good to think of others instead of just yourself all the time, said Dawudeen Maynard. We're raising money to help build a school, added Yahira Hernandez. Students from an elementary school in Huambo Angola also participated in the art project.

"The Gift of Life" Auction was held on April 29, 2003 at Boys and Girls Harbor's "11th Annual Salute to Achievement" luncheon at the Waldorf Astoria. The auction raised $13,000 to support two projects.

"Gift of Life" Check Presentation Ceremony at Boys and Girls Harbor
On September 22, 2003, Boys and Girls Harbor hosted a reception to present the proceeds from the artwork by the students of The Sulaxmi School for Girls and Boys and Girls Harbor. The artwork auctioned at Boys and Girls Harbor's "11th Annual Salute to Achievement" luncheon at the Waldorf Astoria raised $13,000 to support the Sulaxmi School for Girls and a school in Angola.

 

 

The International Lions Club Visits the Sulaxmi School for Girls
On August 15, 2003, The International Lions Club of Lucknow visited the Sulaxmi School for Girls. The International Lions Club members were very impressed with their visit and presented each student with a small gift to show their appreciation.
